California Sets The Template For Total Elimination Of New Legal Gun Sales.

From Right To Bear blog:

2nd Amendment / Gun Control

California’s New Gun Law Literally IMPOSSIBLE to Comply with

rugerCalifornia continues to lead the country in passing dumb anti-gun legislation. For example, a new gun law they’ve passed is literally impossible to follow, so major gun manufacturers are stopping sales of their guns in the state.
Here’s the short version:
Last year Democratic Attorney General Kamala Harris decided that a law signed by Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007 would now be put into effect. The law requires every pistol sold by a dealer in California have a serial number on the tiny tip of the firing pin so that it imprints an identifying mark on the ejected casing of a fired cartridge. Without this, a pistol cannot get onto the “not unsafe” list. It was agreed upon at the time of passage that the law would not go into effect until the imprint technology was developed.
The problem is this is real life. Nobody has developed the technology to make a stamp on the end of a firing pin reliably and successfully so as to consistently leave a serial number on a brass casing. When Smith & Wesson and Ruger asked the California Department of Justice where to get these firing pins, the Department of Justice had no answer. So as a result, no new pistols can be added to the dwindling list of “not unsafe” pistols allowed for sale in California.
Gun manufacturers cannot comply with the new law because the technology required for compliance does not exist yet.
Due to the new law and the extreme financial burden placed on manufacturers who want to sell guns in the Golden State, both Smith & Wesson and Ruger have decided they will no longer sell any guns in the state of California.
Unless something changes, it is not hard to imagine a time in the near future where no guns will be legally sold in California at all. The black market for guns will then flourish and the only people willing or able to acquire guns in the state will be criminals. Oh, and politicians, of course.
