Jeb Bush to Newsmax: Trump's Comments 'Offensive, Disgusting'

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that comments by front-runner Donald Trump were "offensive," "disgusting" — and that voters were not inspired "by shouting out expletives."

"I'm tired of it," the former Florida governor told "Newsmax Now" hosts J.D. Hayworth and John Bachman. "I don't think it's a sign of strength.

"It's a sign of deep insecurity when he uses profanity. There are children watching. I find it offensive when he insults the disabled, women, Hispanics, POWs — calls them losers because they got caught.

"This is disgusting," Bush added. "It's not a sign of leadership. It's certainly not a sign of strength."

Since Trump finished second to Ted Cruz in the Iowa caucuses on Monday, the developer has declared in rallies in New Hampshire that Democrats would sue Cruz's "ass off" because of his Canadian birthplace and that Trump would "beat the s--t out of" anyone who attacked the United States if he were in the White House.

Bush told Newsmax that Trump's comments only made him appear weak to voters.

"This notion that you just raise the volume of your voice and say ugly things," he said. "That makes you strong? Wow.

"That's totally the opposite. It's a sign of deep insecurity and weakness.

"Our next president needs to be strong and have fortitude and inspire people and lead this country," Bush said. "You don't do it by shouting out expletives."

The former governor added that his organization was strong in New Hampshire, which holds its primary on Tuesday, and that "these are practical people who want practical solutions, conservative ones of course, to the challenges we face."

Bush has placed second in recent polls in the state — and he told Newsmax that "New Hampshire has a unique ability to reset the race, and I think they will."

In other comments in his exclusive Newsmax TV interview, Bush said that:
  • Rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are "gifted politicians" but "we need a leader as president of the United States. Someone with a proven record."
  • He would defund Planned Parenthood by executive action once in the White House. "There's ways to support women's health issues without supporting an organization that participates in about a third of all the abortions that take place in this country."
  • Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has "lied to the American people" and that the email scandal "could be her downfall."
  • President Barack Obama's visit to a mosque outside Baltimore was "kind of an afterthought. It's time that he went."
