More Arrows Aimed At Electoral College

More anti-Trump rumblings aimed at Electoral College

With the Electoral College’s Dec. 19 meeting to officially select the president drawing near, more voices are surfacing urging electors to vote for anyone but Donald Trump.
Following a Texas Republican elector’s announcement this week that he will not vote for Trump when the Electoral College convenes later this month, the so-called Hamilton Plan appears to be gaining momentum.
The plan involves convincing 38 of the 306 projected Republican electors for Trump to join all 232 Democrats in electing a compromise candidate. Alternatively, the electors could simply deny Trump the 270 vote majority required for victory which would toss the election outcome to the House.
Advocates of the Electoral College upset plan have published op-eds via a number of national media platforms urging electors to get on board to deny Trump the presidency.
“We the people must embolden these electors by expressing our support in the public square, by reading and discussing the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, and by debating who the compromise candidate should be. The clear support of the people will hearten the electors to fulfill their constitutional duty and protect our Republic,” read one piece published by The Hill.
Another, in the Chicago Tribune asked Republican electors to “please, be brave” and vote for someone besides Trump.
“If there are 37 Republicans among them with the courage to perform their moral duty and protect the nation from a talented but dangerous president-elect, a new history of heroism will have to be written,” the author opined.
