He addressed the incident afterwards, claiming he was not altogether surprised by the sudden attack considering his job.

'When you've been the CEO of an airline for nine years, there's a lot of things that have happened over that period of time, this is different, but it's not unusual. It is an unusual event, but things like this have happened in the past,' he said.
Mr Joyce said he had ‘absolutely no idea’ what flavour the pie was because he's 'not a big pie eater.'

'I didn't have a chance to test it, it was mostly on my glasses,' he joked.
'I think my issue is I need a good dry cleaner before I leave Perth, so if you have one, please recommend it to me.'
In video footage of the incident, the elderly man walked up behind Mr Joyce and rested a hand on his shoulder before pushing the pie into his face and rubbing it in.
He then calmly walked off the stage and was quickly grabbed by security.
The reason behind the attack was unclear.
The airline boss took it relatively well, exclaiming 'f***ing heck' before jovially telling the audience: 'I don't know what that was about.'

After wiping the remnants off his face, Mr Joyce joked with the audience before continuing his speech.
'If there are any more pies, can you get them over with now?' he said, before continuing to discuss the airline's recently announced direct flights to London.
Before police arrived, pictures show the man who attacked Mr Joyce sitting in a grey suit with his head bowed as three other men stand around him.
A spokesperson for WA police told Daily Mail Australia officers 'have been called to a hotel in Adelaide Terrace, East Perth in relation to an assault.'
The spokesperson said one person is in custody, and they are helping police with their inquiries.
The 67-year-old from Perth was later released with a summons to appear in court for giving police false details.
