Republican sentiment about the direction of the country has risen to its highest level since 2007, according to a new Gallup Poll.

What did the poll find?

According to the poll, 61 percent of Republicans said they are satisfied with how things are going in the U.S., the highest level of satisfaction the poll has found since February 2007.
Gallup noted that the increase in satisfaction follows President Donald Trump’s recent approval of a Republican tax reform bill.
The poll marks a major improvement for Republicans after legislative setbacks last year. In October 2017, just 38 percent of Republicans said they were satisfied with the direction of the country.
According to the poll, 25 percent of Republicans said they are very satisfied, and 36 percent said they are somewhat satisfied. Another 23 percent of Republicans say they are somewhat dissatisfied, and 15 percent said they are very dissatisfied.
Democrats’ level of satisfaction with the nation’s direction has dropped to what Gallup called “a new Trump-era low.” Just 7 percent of Democrats said they are satisfied, the lowest level since Trump’s inauguration.
Among all Americans, 29 percent said they are satisfied with the direction of the U.S., while 69 percent said they are dissatisfied.
The Gallup poll results are based on telephone interviews conducted Jan. 2-7, with a random sample of 1,024 adults.
